Happy Brother’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

In May, we celebrate the wonderful mothers who brought us into this world. In June, we celebrate the fathers who have spoiled us with love and cheesy jokes. But in April we celebrate the brothers who protect us from bullies on the playground and monsters under the bed. April 10th is National Sibling Day, so this Sunday we should thank our brothers and here’s why:

1, Brothers have strong protective instincts.

I was never afraid of the dark or being alone when I was younger, but my brother would never let me go into the basement or upstairs by myself. When we had babysitters, he would tuck me in and stay upstairs until I fell asleep. All brothers deserve some recognition for the chivalrous behavior they have been practicing since we were babies.

2. Brothers always come up with the best/weirdest inside jokes and traditions.

My brother and I never mastered the art of dance like Ross and Monica but that doesn’t mean we never tried.

3. Brothers let you tag along with their super cool friends.

Sometimes if we are really lucky we can even watch them play video games!! So cool! So fun!

4. Brothers make your childhood a little more adventurous.

Every time my brother and I got into the car we turned into spies on secret missions. We were practically Carmen and Juni.

5. Brothers make you tougher (mentally and physically).

At the time I may not have appreciated having to do a wall sit so that my brother could use me as a chair, but now I give him credit for my ability to (barely) make it through a class at SoulCycle.

6. Brothers will try their best with fashion advice.

Even though I would never wear my yellow sundress with a purple cardigan, I can totally appreciate the advice effort.

7. Brothers make the best partners in crime.

Time outs and other mom-mandated punishments were always served together.

8. Brothers put up with your diva ways.

This doesn’t mean that they don’t secretly roll their eyes when we have meltdowns about the dressing not being on the side or about the turkey to bread ratio in a homemade sandwich.

Brothers definitely deserve some extra recognition on National Sibling Day for all that they have done for us. Happy Brother’s Day!
