Halloween for the Non-Partier

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

October hits and so does the storm of Halloween. Everyone cannot stop talking about all the awesome parties coming up. I mean, who doesn’t want to be smashed up against some guy covered in fake blood?

Although that guy does seem pretty hard to resist, some people just do not love the party scene. Whether it’s because drinking isn’t your thing or because you know your playlist is way better than any party’s music, not attending a party on Halloween is a perfectly acceptable choice-especially when you consider the fact that you get to avoid answering the, “What are you?” question all night.

Just because you aren’t attending a party, doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time! Some beyond fun options include:

·      Scary movie night

·      Disney Halloween movie night (Yes, this deserves its own category. Twitches, anyone?)

·      Halloween themed food night

·      Haunted houses

·       A corn maze

·      Halloween beauty night (Zombie painted nails? Yes, please.)

·      Ghost stories with friends

·      A bonfire – with s’mores, of course

At this point, I know some of you are thinking, “But what do I tell everyone else? I don’t want to be the only one not going out.” For one, you are not the only one who does not want to go to a party.

I know it may be hard to believe, but not everyone in college goes to parties. It just seems that way, because the people that do are much more vocal about their actions. Think about it. It’s really easy to know people are going out when you hear the high-pitched giggles associated with tipsy girls. On the other hand, if someone is in their room watching a movie, you would never know that by walking by their dorm door.

So now that you have taken solace in the fact that many people do not party, the rest of it is pretty easy. Just tell anyone who asks that you already have plans. If anyone questions you beyond that pull a Marnie Piper from Halloweentown and just embrace your uniqueness.

I am a Political Science major and Women's and Gender Studies minor at Boston College. I am an RA on campus and am involved in the Student Admissions Program. Since I am from Florida, I can legitimately say that I love long walks on the beach. I also love getting lost in a world fabricated by a novel, there is honestly nothing better.
