With summer so close, it’s hard to stay focused and study for finals. However, I’ve found one productive way to procrastinate, and that is to plan things to do over the summer. It gives me something to look forward to and also temporarily relieves me of finals stress. In my searches, I’ve stumbled upon some great day activities that are cheap and exciting.
Go to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket
If you’re staying in Boston this summer, take a ferry to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket. A roundtrip ticket is under $40, and spending the day in either of these places is well worth the money. You can ride your bike around the island, seeing the different towns and shops. Or you can spend the day in one town, getting a chance to really explore it.
This option you can do anywhere. Is there a town or city you’ve always wanted to go to nearby but never have? A fun way to discover this unknown place is to bike around. Drive to the area (or bike there if it’s close enough) and start exploring!
Be in a Tournament
If you’re near a beach or a park, sign up to be in a volleyball (or some other) tournament. The sign up fee will be under $20, and it’s a great way to spend a day in the sun meeting new people! It’s also a great way to practice for Mudstock. You don’t even have to be in a tournament, you can just play a pickup game (for free)! Go with a bunch of friends and play each other or wait for another team to come challenge you.
Visit a Garden
Take a tour of a botanical garden or butterfly garden. Leisurely walk around with friends, your sister, or your mom, taking in the gorgeous sights. Take great pictures to hang in your dorm that will bring a smile to your face when you’re stressed.
Take a Guided Boat Tour
Take a guided boat tour of a city near you. Tours are relatively inexpensive (if you shop around), and you get to see a city from a different view. It’s a fun way to learn more about a city, and who doesn’t love a day on the water?
Do Outdoor Yoga
Take an outdoor yoga class! What a great way to start or end your day. Take this time for yourself to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather.
Go to Local Fairs
Go to local craft and art fairs or flea markets. You’d be amazed at all of the awesome things you’ll find, from jewelry to flower vases. You may stumble upon something to put in your dorm!
