College.
The magical place away from home. Your best friend could be just doors away and you parents can be on the other side of the country.
Then, it hits you. You have to get good grade, be apart of five different clubs, volunteer, sing or dance, and sleep.
Here is a list of struggles many of us college students face:
Sickness
The BC Plague is not a myth! It’s real, and once it has begun, you’ll hear a choir of coughs in every lecture you attend. You can try to avoid the Plague, but it can and WILL hit you at some point.
Morning Classes
Don’t get me wrong, I love my morning classes. Let’s be real, it gets hard sometimes.
But actually, you should…
Just go to class. If you’re lucky, some days you just don’t wake up in time for them. Try again next time…?
Money
We are at that time in our lives where we have to be fiscally responsible. Whether your parents fund your lives, or you work and fund your own life, be responsible with your cash-money. So one day you can do this:
Price of Books
I think textbook money needs their own title. Many of us work a summer job, come to college with some dollars in our pocket. Then, it’s the first day of classes and the bookstore basically robs you of your money.
“The price of books is too d*** high.”
Maintaining/Making Friends
Unlike high school, we can’t pick or choose when we see our friends because they are literally everywhere. It’s like they are following you. We need to know when to spend time with our friends, and when we don’t need to spend time with out friends (like when your midterm is tomorrow). We also need to ensure we have healthy relationships in college. These are the people that we see on a regular basis. Make sure they’re good ones.
Laundry
I think this one speaks for itself. There’s not really a “laundry day” in college. You know its time when you open your drawer to get ready and you only have two shirts left.
Running Out of Meal Plan Money
At BC, meal plans cost about $2,300. Once that money finishes, …
I’m 99% sure that someone can find it in his or her heart to buy your meals after your meal plan finishes.
Communal Bathrooms
‘Nough said.
Midterm Week
At BC, Midterm Week basically starts at the end of September, so it’s more like Midterm Months. All-nighters and coffee will be tempting and one day will be your best friend. (It’s ok, I still don’t like them that much either.)
College is fun, but with every pro there is a con. Being in college is like a free trial for adulthood. You can still sort of act like a child, but simultaneously have to plan out your entire life and who you want to be for four years. No biggie. These struggles will slowly turn us into fabulous strong “men and women for others”. Right…?
