Bachelor’s Best Proposals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

In honor of this past week’s newest Bachelor engagement of Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi let’s take a look back at some of the best proposals in past seasons. Spoiler: they all lasted! (so far…)

5.  Trista and Ryan (Bachelorette Season 1)

Who could forget when the Bachelor franchise opened up their show to a female lead and thus the Bachelorette was born. Trista Sutter was the show’s first star and she accepted Ryan Sutter’s proposal in the season finale. They rode off in a carriage together and the two have been happily married for 14 years and have 2 children together. They set the bar pretty high for the Bachelorette’s promising future.

4.  Ashley and JP (Bachelorette Season 7)

Yet another success story from the Bachelorette was that of Ashley and J.P. Rosenbaum. Ashley’s sister left JP anxious as to what she would say when he got down on one knee, but just as adoring fans had anticipated, she said yes! After a very romantic sunset proposal in Fiji, Ashley and JP are happily married living in Miami with their son Ford and daughter Essex.

3.  Desiree and Chris (Bachelorette Season 9)

Success again! (Clearly the negative theory about the Bachelor’s track record being poor is not true.) After being left heartbroken by Brooks in the season finale it seemed questionable if an engagement was in the cards for Des. But after Chris’ touching proposal Des replied, “Yes, a thousand times. I want to grow old and gray and wrinkly with you.” Cue the tears. The two are now happily married and have a baby son, Asher.

2.  Kaitlyn and Shawn (Bachelorette Season 11)

If you caught any of this season of the show you would know these two are the definition of love at first sight. It was clear to all those watching (and the other sad men involved) that Shawn had stolen Kaitlyn’s heart from night one. So it was no surprise when Shawn professed his love to Kaitlyn down on one knee that she couldn’t help but sob tears of joy and accept the proposal. They are another story of success, still engaged and currently living together just enjoying their time as an engaged couple.

1. Sean and Catherine (Bachelor Season 17)

One of the most unexpected proposals has turned into one of my personal favorite Bachelor couples. Catherine’s shaky hands and ever present nerves during Sean’s proposal was a testament to the shock Bachelor Nation felt when Sean got down on one knee. But I am so glad he did! Their elephant ride off into the sunset has now resulted in 3 years of marriage and one of the cutest babies ever, Samuel.

So what do you think? Will Nick and Vanessa be another happy ending for the Bachelor franchise?
