AUDM is Lucky to Have a Turn with Turnley

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Auburn chapter.

The importance of being involved is one of the many concepts that have been drilled into our academic lives and there is one person that I think shows exceptional involvement on Auburn University’s campus.

Sara Turnley, majoring in public relations with a minor in business, is heavily involved with Auburn University Dance Marathon.

Turnley applied for AUDM in the fall of 2014 and has had the privilege to be on staff ever since October of 2014.  “The first year on staff, I was a committee member on the High School Relations committee, and this year I am an Assistant Director of High School Relations,” says Turnley.

“When I was in high school, we had a 27-hour marathon dance, which is somewhat similar to AUDM, both have the purpose of dancing together, changing lives forever. I knew when I came to Auburn, I wanted to get involved with something that was similar to my high school’s marathon dance. That’s when I heard about AUDM. So I applied and was fortunate to be selected, not knowing at the time how much of an impact it would have on my life. The people I get to work with and the miracle families I get to meet and benefit make everything worth it.”

AUDM has recently announced their first public goal of raising $395,000 For The Kids. Turnley says, “Reaching this goal would bring our grand total to $1 million in just five years.”

Turnley is also involved with Greek life- Tri Delta Sorority, and is a volunteer mentor with Project Uplift, which provides at-risk youth in the Auburn and Opelika area with mentors.

She has proved to be a dedicated and involved member of AUDM, which just goes to show how important becoming a part of something early on can lead to higher rankings within the organization and result in skills that can change your life.
