Three Great and Free Fitness Apps To Try

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

A new spring semester means crowded exercise classes and little to no free equipment or machines at the gym. It means worrying about getting in the exercise class on time because the class might run out of room, and it means fretting about hitting someone in that class because it’s too crowded.

Want a workout that gives as good of a workout as an exercise class without all the extra hassle? And in the dorm room? Then, downloadable workout apps are the way to go.

FitStar Personal Trainer

After making a profile and completing a short fitness test, the app prepares a workout based on how your performance was rated.

The workout might have two minutes of butt kicks, jumping jacks or high knees. While literally kicking your butt, you might wonder why you even downloaded the app in the first place. Fear not, it will all be worth it when you get an email saying you leveled up.

The app also has special promotions. This month, if 20 workouts are completed, you are entered for the New Year’s 30-Day Fitness Challenge Prize Pack where you could win a new iPad, Nike shoes, a $500 Whole Foods gift card, one year access to both FitStar Personal Trainer, Fitstar Yoga and much more.

FitStar Yoga

FitStar Yoga is exactly like FitStar Personal Trainer, except it focuses on yoga.

Hot 5

In a time crunch? (No pun intended.) Just don’t have the motivation to go to the gym or do a long workout, collegiettes? Hot 5 is what you need. It’s called “Hot 5” because the workouts last only 5 minutes. Upon opening the app, there’s a list of categories like “Total Bodyweight”, “Abs & Core” and “Butt & Legs”. Within the categories, there’s a list of free workouts, and each of the 5-minute workouts lasts only a minute. If it’s done right, the pause button will get some major use.
