Brandon is proud that he comes from a family of strong morals. Though his parents aren’t college graduates, they always instilled in him the value of a high education, but most importantly, he says they told him to always do something that will affect others in a positive way with his education.

Brandon has an impressive record including being student body president of his high school and six-time USATF junior national championship competitor. His athletic abilities, good grades, and amazing high school involvement has earned him multiple scholarships.

Brandon is excited to get involved and is considering joining SGA (Student Government Association) sometime in his career at Appalachian State University to help make the campus a better place He is also considering joining a historically black fraternity to experience brotherhood, but for now, he says that Minority Men’s Leadership Circle club is good.

“I have built a relationship with these guys that can last for a lifetime, and we have done this building while helping the Appalachian community. Volunteering at events that mean something to all and coming together on creating events that we feel will make the Appalachian community more inclusive is something that brought us together.”

When he is not helping other people, he likes to run track. He has been running track for 11 years and is on our Varsity Track team here at App State.

Brandon hopes to major in elementary education. He says that the college of education and the school of marketing both pique his interest.

“The area of education in which I teach is not a big concern for me, I will enjoy any level of teaching, especially elementary education because I always wanted to have a great positive effect on the next generation and what other way to do that than help them build their foundation?”

He came to App for two main reasons.

One, he fell in love with the scenery and really wanted the chance to go snowboarding

The second reason is for his track career. He says that the benefits of training in high altitude and having a coach that you feel comfortable with was really big in his values for choosing a school

Brandon’s support system is his family and his role model/mentor/brother, Eric, who is a University of South Carolina in Columbia graduate.

“He has been my role model and basically another brother for me since I was 8 years old. He has given me advice and encouragement on track and just plain life stresses that we all experience. I don’t know where I would be without him as a mentor.”

Brandon is an amazing friend with a caring heart and amazing mind.
