Breakups are brutal, there’s no two ways about it.

Getting dumped is even more brutal though. It seems to be a bit of a trend these days where girls who deserve the world settle for less. If I could explain how worthy of love the girls in my life are, I could fill up a library. But there’s that guy in everyone’s history. The kind of guy that breaks your heart for no good reason and somehow ends up making you feel like you’re to blame and that he’s out of YOUR league.

We need to talk about this outbreak of fierce ladies not feeling fierce. If a man leaves you because he “just doesn’t love you anymore” or “wants to have the college experience” DO NOT WAIT FOR HIM TO COME BACK TO YOU. There are men out there that are worth waiting on and worth working on yourself for. However, the men that make you feel like you are less than a blessing, or worse, like he’s doing you a favor by being with you, tell him not to let the door hit him on the way out.

Here’s a list of the guys not to wait for:

  1. He acts like he’s God’s gift to you.
  2. He makes fun of you or your life and not in a playful/fun way.
  3. He calls you crazy when you try to talk to him about things that bother you or things that you care about.
  4. He calls you a bitch…ever.
  5. Right after you break up, he goes out of his way to post about the new girls in his life or how happy he is being single.
  6. He’s emotionally abusive.
  7. He’s “a grown man” but still spends more money on petty things instead of bills.
  8. He keeps reeling you back in just to cut you loose one more time for good measure.

I know breakups are tough, but so are you. You are so much stronger than you realize. Instead of waiting for a boy who doesn’t deserve you, wait for the man that sets your world on fire and calms the storms. The one that makes you feel like the most beautiful woman in any room. The one who encourages your dreams and your passions and loves you for your brain as much as your body.

There is someone out there for you, and I promise you, even though it feels like you’ll never move on, you will. In the future, you’re going to look back and laugh at how you felt. The sun’s going to keep coming up.

You are strong and independent and don’t need no man to be a whole human. You are worthy of whatever your heart desires, single or not.

If you’re reading this and some of those red flags are hitting a little too close to home, I’ll leave you with one more piece of advice:

In the words of Christiana Yang: “He is very dreamy but he’s not the sun. You are.”
