Things To Do This Weekend To Make It Feel Like Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Amherst chapter.

I always believe that the best time of the year at Amherst is Autumn.  It’s not too hot and not too cold so you can enjoy outdoor activites and enjoy the comfort of sweaters and leggings all at the same time.  The weather is still a bit warm and the leaves haven’t started to change so it doesn’t feel like Autumn just yet.  However, here are a few tips to make Amherst fell a bit more Autumn-y this week.

Farm Fest

This Saturday will be Farm Fest.  For those of you have yet to experience the wonders of Farm Fest, it is an event hosted by Book and Plow Farm.  In the afternoon, you can help to harvest vegetables and then later you enjoy ice cream, burgers and cool beverages. There is often live music and it’s great place to mingle with other members of the Amherst community.

Host a Wine and Cheese Party

Summer is all about barbecues, but Autumn and Winter bring in the wine and cheese party.  The main course doesn’t have to be wine or cheese, but the ideas is that people come to enjoy each other’s company, not shovel food in their mouth. To cut down the cost, encourage everyone to bring something.  It could be food they have in their dorm or a board game for everyone to play.  It’s a great way to get to know people more intimately and a good Spotify playlist can keep any party jumping.

Buy or Make Something Autumn-y

Pumpkin Spice, apple cider, and sweet potatoe pie are the wonderful flavors of Autumn.  You can talk a brisk walk to Starbucks (if you order it using the app at Val, it will be waiting for you by the time you arrive there!) or you can gather your friends and make your own creation in one of the dorm kitchens.

Go Shopping in Northhampton

If your wardrobe feels a little too summery, go to Northhampton to purchase a few scarves and sweaters.  There are plenty of places that sell inexpensive and stylish clothing.  Even if you decide not to purchase anything, it’s always nice to have a change of scenery.

Enjoy the Bird Trail

Autumn is the perfect time to hike because of the colorful landscape.  Even if the leaves aren’t changing yet, an early morning walk can get you energized on a Sunday and ready for the rest of the week!

I hope these tips can get you as excited about Autumn as I am!  Have a great weekend!
