Meet Diandra Adu-Kyei 19

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Amherst chapter.

Diandra has a big personality.  She commands a room and brings laughs to all who encounter her.  Get to know Diandra more with Her Campus!

Tell me about where are you from:

I’m a New York City native, born and raised in The Bronx.

How does the weather at Amherst compare to the weather back home?:

It’s more or less the same, but NYC definitely has more buildings so we don’t usually feel the wind chill like we do here at Amherst. #brick

Why did you choose to attend Amherst?:

TBH, I personally didn’t choose Amherst, I initially wanted to go to Wesleyan University. But after a “conversation” with my mom, I ended up here. It’s okay though, I like Amherst and it’s definitely a better place to be for my prospective major, Biology.

What are you interested in both academically and leisurely?:

I’m on the pre-med track and I like Chinese (learning and speaking new languages really) and Biology. In my free time, I love being active, playing sports, listening to and playing music, doing some graphic design work, and making lit snapchat stories. *fire emoji*

What are you passionate about the most?:

I’m passionate about being hype and staying lit. If this whole med school thing doesn’t work out, I’m trying be a professional hype-man. #HireMeForYourNextEvent

Tell me the best memory of your first year:

One of the best memories I had my freshman year would have to be when a couple of seniors came up to me in Val and basically told me that they wanted to be friends with me because I was someone who was so lit and my stories were on fleek. *flips hair* But honestly, this broke down the wall I thought existed between upperclassmen and underclassmen and now a good percentage of my friends are upperclassmen who have turned out to be great guides and support systems.

What are your plans for the rest of your time at Amherst and beyond:

Shiddddd, God-willing, I’ll go on to finish my major and continue on to medical school to become a neurosurgeon.

What is the best compliment you’ve received?:

“I just love Diandra, her laugh and her personality can instantly get me out of a bad mood.”
