Meet Alejandra, a pre-med Science whiz that will be off to Paris next semester! Get to know her before she goes with Her Campus!
Tell me about where are you from:
I am Colombian, and I immigrated to Houston with my family when I was very young.
How does the weather at Amherst compare to the weather back home?:
It’s hot and humid. People complaining about “winter” in Houston actually makes me laugh now, especially when I think of the winters up here. I used to be one of those people.
Why did you choose to attend Amherst?:
I ask myself that question sometimes. I guess the idea of something new and different was enticing.
What are you interested in both academically and leisurely?:
I really like almost anything related to science, I used to read books all the time on random topics I found interesting (back when I had more time lol). In my free time I like to do things that involve physical activity, but I also really enjoy just hanging out with friends. Also sleeping.
What are you passionate about the most?:
Lately, I’ve been really invested in growing my hair out. I’ve been putting in that time and that money to really take care of it. Hopefully, it gets really long. All I can do is wait, though.
Tell me the best memory of your first year:
So many of my best first-year memories happened while I was staying up late “ studying” with my closest friends in James. That one time we managed to get out, we went to Puffer’s Pond. Oh wow, I almost forgot about going to New York during Thanksgiving Break. I just can’t choose, and I’m not even an indecisive person. I guess I just had too much fun.
What are your plans for the rest of your time at Amherst and beyond:
I’m studying abroad next semester in Paris, and then I only have one year left. I just want to enjoy the rest of the time I have here with my peoples. Then, hopefully, I’m off to med school.
What is the best compliment you’ve received?:
I don’t know; I feel like I hang out around too many people that will give me a compliment and then throw shade at me in the same breath — the same breath! I’ve been told I’m sassy. I’ll take that as a compliment.
