Three Main Reasons its Sundress Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

After months of the District being totally confused about when to stop making it snow (but like, thanks for all the days off from school,) the birds are chirping, it’s suns-out-guns-out weather, and the quad is the place to be. In other words, Spring has finally arrived fashionably late.

But what does this warm weather mean to basically every young woman out there? Sundress season has arrived. Floral, chiffon, maxi, or high-low, sundresses are always the way to go. Here are five reasons why, when lion turns to lamb, sundresses are the move.

1. Perfect for D.C.’s Bi-polar weather:

Yeah. Anyone who lives in D.C., knows that the weather is as inconsistent as Lady GaGa’s fashion choices. It’s up, it’s down, it’s hot, it’s cold, and no one ever knows what to do! Literal madness. One may be thinking that sundresses are no good, because it’s just a little too cold in the morning for such exposure.  However, there is such a simple solution.

All you have to do is throw on a cute sweater or a pair of tights and you’re good to go. Oh, and guess what. The 90s called and they don’t want your jean jacket back, so feel to throw that on as well! Then, when the temperature decides to randomly rise, you can peel off your layers and wear less with your dress.

2. Comfortable yet Cute:

You know those days when you stare at a pair of jeans, and you just can’t do it? You know when the thought of sliding your stiff, cold, newly-washed jeans up your legs and onto your hips makes you want to crawl under a rock and never come out? Well that is why sundresses is the answer. They are flowy, breezy, light, and comfortable.

All you have to do is slip it over your head and voila! You’re dressed in a heartbeat and ready to break some hearts. They are way more comfortable than those tight high-waisted jean shorts that despite their super-trendiness, fail to ever stay in place, thus exposing some under-butt.

For the most part, sundresses are easy to wear, but be careful and conscious about what your sundress is doing. A few things can go wrong. It can blow up from the wind, ride up if it gets caught on your backpack or suck in your tights, and you should always be aware of who’s behind you when walking up the stairs. But have no fear. Spandex underneath is an easy solution.

3. Boys Say Yes to the Sundress:

It’s no secret that girls like to dress up and look nice so they can bring all the boys to the yard. I mean, putting scientific probability aside, imagine if we lived in a world of all girls. Not only would our Saturday nights be boring AF, but we would probably stick to sweatpants and t-shirts. But thankfully, boys are a thing, and so we tend to dress in clothes that may catch a campus cutie’s eye. That said, it is also no secret that guys go crazy for a girl in a sundress.

Yes, winter is over so we bid our yoga pants adieu, but sundresses are the next best thing! Literally, sundresses make any girl look so adorable and feminine and sweet to a guy. I swear, it’s like every time they see a girl walking through the quad wearing a sundress, they hear Shania Twain’s “Man I Feel Like a Woman” playing as you walk towards them. So slip on a sundress, because the boys will come a’knockin.

Addressing the Dress: While there is plenty of apparel to wear when it’s spring, the best of the best is your cutest sundress. You get to look super cute and wear something that the dudes will love, while simultaneously being comfortable and D.C.-weather-ready
