In case you’ve been living under a rock, United Airlines just has not been able to catch a break lately.
First, the airline barred two young girls from boarding a flight because they were wearing leggings—a violation of the dress code for those traveling with employee passes. Weeks later, video footage surfaced of Dr. David Dao being forcibly dragged off a United plane after refusing to give up his seat on an overbooked flight. Just this week, a three-foot long rabbit named Simon was found dead on a United flight that was supposed to transport him safely from London to the U.S. Oh, and did we mention that someone got stung by a scorpion on a United flight a couple weeks ago?
After these PR disasters, United has vowed to make major changes to their policies, and they’ve decided to drop prices, too.
In preparation for summer travel, United is offering tickets to Trinidad and Tobago for as low as $274, and you can get from Boston to Sweden for just $364, according to Cosmopolitan.
And if you’re feeling hesitant to fly United, the airline is doing their best to change public perception by implementing some changes. They say passengers who have already boarded a flight will never be asked to give up their seat due to overbooking, and they’ve also upped the amount of money passengers will be able to receive for volunteering to switch flights.
However, The New York Times reports that flights are cheaper than they have been in years. This is due to “budget carriers forcing the competition to lower prices.” Whatever the reason may be, I say grab your girlfriends, book a flight, pack your bags and enjoy your summer, collegiettes—you earned it!
