Rumors were buzzing Monday that Starbucks could be opening a huge, mega coffee shop in New York City in the near future. That would mean rows and rows of coffee, leaving us caffeine-addicts totally buzzing with excitement!
The New York Post reported that Starbucks was looking to open a store as large as 15,000 to 25,000 square feet, similar to its Seattle Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room. They had reportedly checked out Fifth Avenue and the Meatpacking District as possible locations. Starbucks released a statement in 2014 announcing plans to open “at least 100 stores” in major U.S. cities to highlight the Seattle Roastery’s coffees. Despite the Post’s reporting, Starbucks told Cosmopolitan that the mega-store rumors were “speculative,” and refused to comment.
A huge Starbucks would be a dream-come-true. It would be big enough to avoid the judging stares while we coffee-lovers enjoy our third or fourth cup of java. Maybe there could be a coffee hot tub…too far? Probably.
E! Online reported yesterday that the megastores were just rumors, and that Starbucks is actually planning on rolling out 500 “Starbucks Reserve” stores around the country, where you can get special, rare coffee. That’s…better than nothing?
