One Injury Has Been Reported After Police Responded To An Active Shooter Situation At A SoCal High School

It’s becoming a new American tradition for high school students and Friday morning was no exception. Police received a call around 7 a.m. about an active shooter at or near Highland High School in California.  Once on the scene they discovered that a 14-year-old boy fired multiple shots with a rifle.

The victim of the shooting was a 17-year-old male who was shot in the arm and later drove himself to the hospital, according to VICE News.

The names of those involved have not been released at this time, but the school was placed on lockdown until 9:30 a.m. PT.

Many students took to Twitter and Snapchat to show how they were barricading themselves inside classrooms. While students of neighboring communities expressed their condolences and well wishes.

The shooter was found and detained inside a Vons grocery store roughly one mile from the school, according to CNN. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating what led up to the shooting and the shooter’s motive. There is limited information at this time.

This is the 21st  school shooting in the United States this year.
