Despite seemingly burying the hatchet last year, and even rumors that Katy Perry would make a cameo in Taylor Swift’s music video (though they turned out to be false), it seems the infamous feud between goddesses of pop Katy Perry and Taylor Swift might still be alive and well.
In a clip from the recently-rebooted American Idol, on which Katy is serving as a judge this season, one contestant apologizes to Katy before telling the judges that he looks up to Taylor Swift, referencing their long-standing feud. In response, Katy says, “I love her, as a songwriter, as well.”

While the moment is subtle, many fans are interpreting Katy’s choice wording of her love for Taylor as a songwriter and not necessarily as a person, as being super shady. Of course, Katy’s comment could also have simply been an accidental slip of the tongue.
As recently as last year, Perry had offered an open apology to her supposed sworn enemy, saying, “I forgive her and I’m sorry for anything I ever did, and I hope the same from her. I think it’s actually like, I think it’s time. There are bigger fish to fry, and there are real problems in the world,” so we’re definitely hoping it’s the latter, and not the former. (Because powerful women should *always* build each other up, not tear each other down.)
As a quick refresher, Katy and Taylor’s feud started in 2013 over backup dancers that left Katy’s tour to work with Taylor. While we won’t go into details, it inspired both Swift’s hit ‘Bad Blood’ and Perry’s song ‘Swish Swish,’ so it’s safe to say it’s run its course — can we all just get along now please?
