Beyoncé Was Snubbed At The Emmys & We Are Not Okay

Anyone (literally everyone, right?) expecting Beyoncé to take home her first Emmy with ease tonight was probably Kanye levels of disappointed.

Bey was nominated in the Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special category, along with Kahlil Joseph, for her HBO special, Lemonade. The very day we found out Queen B had been nominated, we just knew she would wow us on the red carpet, deliver a jaw-dropping surprise performance of some kind and sweep the Emmys stage, collecting her prize with no trouble at all. But that’s not quite how it went down.

Not only was Beyoncé a no-show for the awards ceremony, but she lost out in her category to Grease: Live. Don’t get us wrong: we are just as obsessed with Grease: Live as the Emmy voters, but come on. Snubbing Bey is unfathomable in this day and age. It looks like B will have to work a little harder if she wants to earn that EGOT.

Erin was previously the Entertainment Editor of Her Campus. She graduated from Belmont University in 2015, where she studied English and Elementary Education. Before joining the team full-time, she was a national contributing blogger, viral content writer and editorial intern at HC. In addition to her work for Her Campus, Erin was formerly an editorial assistant at Nfocus Magazine and has been published by HelloGiggles and Man Repeller. In her free time, you can find Erin falling for yet another TV boyfriend (her long list of ex-lovers includes Nathan Scott, Chuck Bass and Pacey Witter, to name a few), reading chick lit and/or celeb memoirs and hanging with her puppy/soulmate, Cooper.
