My Interview with Far East Movement!

This summer in New York City I was an editorial intern at MTV Iggy,  the website for MTV World. I was assigned to cover a Robyn / Kelis concert at Webster Hall, and the special openers for the tour were Far East Movement and Dan Black. I was already super excited to get to go to this free four-part concert and see some amazing acts, but I was floored when I found out the that production team was planning on interviewing both Robyn and Far East Movement before the show, and they asked ME to do the interview with Far East Movement!  “Like a G6” had been my party anthem all summer, so I was already a huge fan and really excited to meet this upcoming artist in person.

They were really friendly and when I told them that “Like a G6” goes on repeat for my pregame party mix they were SO surprised and flattered, as if they had no idea they were famous. We did the interview in the basement of Webster Hall (it was the quietest place we could find during all the sound checks) and the room is actually under construction but you can’t tell because of the way we positioned the couch and had the camera angle. Its a room full of mirrors and cool ceiling lights, so the end effect was actually pretty cool. Sadly, I am not on camera, and am actually sitting in a chair immediately to the left of the camera, and they cut out my voice asking the questions and filled it in with text…. but I promise I was right there! If you look really hard, you might even be able to see me in the reflection of their sunglasses.

Joanna Buffum is a senior English major and Anthropology minor at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.  She is from Morristown, NJ and in the summer of 2009 she was an advertising intern for OK! Magazine and the editorial blog intern for Zagat Survey in New York City. This past summer she was an editorial intern for MTV World's music website called MTV Iggy, writing fun things like album and concert reviews for bands you have never heard of before. Her favorite books are basically anything involving fantasy fiction, especially the Harry Potter series and “Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell” by Susanna Clarke. In her free time she enjoys snowboarding, playing intramural field hockey, watching House MD, and making paninis. In the spring of 2010 she studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark, and she misses the friendly, tall, and unusually attractive Danish people more than she can say. After college, she plans on pursuing a career in writing, but it can be anywhere from television script writing, to magazine journalism, to book publishing.
