Name: Bianca Posterli
Job Title and Description: Digital Director for Tyra Banks

Her Campus: What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?
Bianca Posterli: My responsibility is coordinating Tyra’s digital presence in a multitude of ways including: launching her on new platforms and brainstorming ways to use social outlets in order to reach her “fam” base.

Thankfully, I can say that days are anything but typical in my field. One day I’ll be at a conference, the next I’ll be on the set of a photo shoot, and the following I’ll be in brainstorming meetings with my co-workers. One of my favorite projects was organizing her Google+ Hangout, where she spent an hour chatting with two of her “superfams” about body image, her mission to redefine the definition of beauty, and her New York Times bestselling novel, Modelland. It was such a thrilling experience to be able to bring Tyra into the homes of thousands thanks to the beauty of the Internet.

HC: What was your first entry-level job in your field and how did you get it?
BP: My very first job out of college was a reporter for Fashion Week Daily, where I would cover news — from designer collaborations to media moves in the industry. I still joke around about the fact that my father once asked me, “So you get paid to party?” Funny, yes, but in reality, the job was so much more. I was lucky enough to parlay my internship experience at fashion magazines during college at NYU into a full-time gig reporting on the news, the parties, the designers, the models, and the secrets of the fashion industry.

HC: What is one thing you wish you knew about your industry when you first started out that you know now?
BP: When we’re in school, the realm of career possibilities seem so small — doctor, lawyer, journalist, or director. In reality, these professions are only a small fraction of the jobs out in the world. I’m still learning about different fields in my industry, and thanks to the build up of the tech industry, new jobs are popping up regularly and my generation is primed to shape the future of those positions.

HC: Who is one person who changed your professional life for the better?
BP: My boss at Modelinia, Liane Mullin, taught me so much about business, opportunity, and determination while expanding my career path. She helped me grow from the staff writer of Modelinia to the editor, social media director, and on-camera talent. I know that much of my career development in the past few years is due to the fact that she believed in me and pushed me further than I knew how to push myself.

HC: What is the best part of your job?
BP: The best part about my job has to be the fact that no idea is ever too crazy. All the “out there” plans that I come up with might not work out in the end, but the ability to think differently and brainstorm inventive ideas is always viewed as a good thing in this industry!

HC: What do you look for when considering hiring someone?
BP: Anyone that works with me should be self-motivated, extremely determined, and highly creative. I want to see people who are giving the job everything they have and more.

HC: What advice would you give to a 20-something with similar aspirations?
BP: Always strive to further yourself. Read everything you can get your hands on. Be gracious, be courteous, and be open to every possibility that comes your way.
