Best Blush: Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush!

One of my favorite books is Amy Vanderbilt’s Etiquettte: The Guide to Gracious Living. Originally published in 1952, the author offers all sorts of tips, ranging from when a man should remove his hat in public to how to properly manage a household without a maid. As a descendant from Cornelius Vanderbilt, her tips are wildly out of touch with modern America, so I tend to take her writings with a grain of salt. In one chapter, Vanderbilt says, “Rouge, even artfully applied, can make the most charming young girl look déclassé.” I couldn’t disagree more!

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Blush is one of my favorite beauty products. I wear shade 40, Soft Plum. It comes in a 0.2 ounce glass container with a twist-off cap. The jar is filled with a lightly-whipped mousse, just a tad thicker than chocolate mousse. I dip the pad of my ring finger into the jar, rub my fingers together, then gently swirl the products onto the apples of my cheeks and up towards my temples. The result is a pretty pink flush, without looking over-the-top or garish. Even better, the product is light and fluffy, which means I can’t even feel it on my skin. It’s available for around six dollars at most drugstores.

Contrary to what Mrs. Vanderbilt might say, I think rouge can definitely be classy. I wear it daily. What do you think? Is blush an integral part of your beauty routine?
