Dear Her Campus @ UCD, I Want My Friend's Boy

5/19/2011
Dear Her Campus @ UCD,

My best friend hooked up with this guy a few times, and although he never thought it was anything serious she really liked/likes him. But recently him and I have gotten really close and enjoy spending time together. The guy I once thought was solely a friend could be turning into something more…I think we really have a great connection, and I want to give it a chance, but I don’t want to ruin my relationship with my best friend. I need your advice. ~Confused yet Looking for Love

Dear Confused yet Looking for Love,

I totally understand where you are coming from: college, horny, attention from a guy… obviously right now all signs lead to jump on the opportunity. There’s a high possibility that this guy is great for you because you and your friend probably share commonalities and maybe it took him time to get to know you through her to realize he had the wrong girl from the start. But whether that be the case or not, she is your friend. Would she ever do that to you? You said it yourself “ I don’t want to ruin my relationship with my best friend.” Now every scenario is different and you know it better than I do. But if it’s a recent hook-up, even if she is over it, it can still be annoying to her, which will make her distance herself.
