Lose The Freshman 15: Dieting, Yuck!

Hey guys,

I want to talk about my least favorite thing in the world: DIETING! I’ve probably said this before but I hate the word diet and I hate having to watch calories. Now, I’m not talking about the  Drop10 Diet. I don’t mind that so much because all I have to do is eat delicious foods so I call it a food plan. I’m talking about the crazy diets; you know the ones that make you want to cry. First, some celebrity diets.

We all want to look as good as our favorite celebrities. But our favorite celebrities have to keep up crazy diets in order to look so good. Take Gwyneth Paltrow for instance. She follows a “GOOP cleanse”, which is a 21-day detox plan that allows only one meal a day. Please, I eat 3 meals a day and that’s not enough for me. The grossest diet I’ve ever heard of was January Jones’. She had her placenta dried, crushed, and put into capsules, which she ingested in an attempt to shed her babyweight. I’d rather be fat.

Some other crazy diets
1. Chewing Diet – must chew each bite over 32 times. Once you’re done chewing, anything too big to swallow must be spit out. GROSS!
2. Tapeworm Diet – you took a pill which had a tapeworm, a parasite. Too bad you can die from having a tapeworm in your body.
3.Sleeping Beauty Diet – you would sedate yourself and since you weren’t eating you’d lose weight. Yeah, starvation kills, literally.
4. Vision Diet – um… apparently you wear glasses that make food look disgusting so you won’t eat it. But you can also develop vision problems from wearing them.
5. Aoqili Diet – these soaps contain seaweed that penetrate the skin and breakdown fat. No one actually knows if this works and you could have an allergic reaction to the soap.
6. Ear Stapling – supposedly piercing the cartilage of your inner ear suppresses your appetite. Ear stapling is illegal in Florida and other states have regulated the practice because you can get an infection or receive nerve damage.
7. Cotton Ball Diet – you eat cotton balls. Kind of obvious it’d lead to a lack of vitamins, nutrients and cause digestive problems.
8. Blood Type Diet (I’ve done this) – the idea is that every blood type has a set of foods that is best for it and if you eat according to your blood type you’ll lose weight. This might be a problem if you’re allergic or intolerant to something. Plus I didn’t lose weight
9. Hallelujah Diet – requires eating food from Genesis Chapter 1, Verse 29. It’s an all vegan diet so you’d have to make sure you’re getting enough protein, vitamins and minerals.
10. Caveman Diet – limited to lean meat, fish, veggies, fruit, roots and nuts. Grains, dairy, salt, refined sugar, oils and legumes are all strictly prohibited. The only flaw is that you’d have a problem with your dairy intake.

Now that I’ve given 12 pretty outrageous diets, I want to give some we’ve all thought about. Like giving up carbs which only makes you blow up like a balloon once you start re-introducing them back into your diet. I’ve heard of some people eating gluten-free foods in order to lose weight, which is great if you want to be healthier or if you’re allergic, but gluten-free products actually cause you to gain weight since they’re more likely to have more fat and calories. Worst of all, not eating enough food because you want to lose weight. Trust me, this should NEVER be an option. When you don’t eat food, your body will start to eat your fat, muscles, and eventually your orga
ns in order to keep itself alive.

Moral of the blog: don’t go on crazy diets. If you see a diet that you’re interested in doing, make sure you do a lot of research on it. Being fit is nice but being healthy is way better! And don’t ever let anyone tell you what you should or shouldn’t be eating in order to lose weight. Because guess what, they’re probably not a dietician.
