Lose the Freshman 15: The Balancing Act

Hi Everyone!

Hope you all had a great week! It is the second week back to school for me, so the term is picking up (aka piles of homework) and so are my stress levels.  On Wednesday, I had SO much homework to do.  I didn’t know if I would be able to get it done without having to pull an all-nighter.  It is my last term of college and I had gotten through without pulling all-nighters (for homework, at least), and it seemed like that was going to be my reality.  Ready to tough it out – it came to me that if I pull an all-nighter, my stress will be even higher, I am SURE I would devour any chocolate I could find in my apartment, I will have ZERO motivation to workout, I will be sleep deprived so my cortisol levels will be high, meaning I would be craving carbs to get some “energy”, and my work quality at 3am wouldn’t be my very best.  Having committed to being healthy and Losing the Freshman 15, I changed my mind instantly to not pull an all-nighter, but figure out a healthier solution.

The problem was that the next day I was going to be in class, then a job interview, and then class again.  Giving me zero time to work on my two papers, study for an accounting quiz, and finish accounting homework.  I KNOW you all can relate to this – it is the college kids dilemma.  Be healthy or do it all? Instead, I cancelled my job interview (it was for another part time job – I apparently think I have more hours in the day or something), and went to bed at a nice 11pm after finishing all of my accounting homework, and did my papers the next day between classes.  The outcome?  I felt very proud of myself for facing the fact that sometimes, I don’t have to do it all (I have major FOMO) and was able to make the healthy choice.

Sometimes it is hard to choose leading a healthy life over “doing it all”.  But you know what? Being healthy is priceless, and you are the only person in control of your health.  I truly believe that prevention is cheaper than treatment, so treat your body, mind & soul well – you deserve it!!

If you have any suggestions or tips for balancing school & health I would love to hear them.  Also, it still is not too late to sign up with me – I have never felt better!! Sign up here to join the SELF challenge here with me!

On a much better note, I am going to go do sprints on the track and get in a good core workout. Find a local track, and for 8 laps, sprint the straights and jog/ walk the curves.  This is a 2 mile HIIT workout guaranteed to blast fat.

P.S.  I am eating the most delicious Protein Pancakes right now – post will be up on Sunday with the recipe!

Have a great weekend & take care of your body!!
