Review Guys with the Lulu App

Have you ever gotten halfway through a date with a guy and thought “I wish someone had warned me that he (insert offputting habit or quality he possesses here)”? There’s now an app that can give you that warning you wish you’d had! Lulu is an app that lets you review your exes or past hook-ups to let other girls know what they’re like so that they’re ready for what’s in store for them.

Alexandra Chong says that she created this app because even though some of the guys she’s been with in the past weren’t for her, they could be right for someone else. Lulu isn’t the place to totally trash your ex and make sure he never gets a girlfriend, though; it’s supposed to be a place to recommend guys to other women, and does so in a lighthearted way, not a cruel one.

Lulu is a No Boys Allowed zone– you can only use the app if you identify yourself as “female” on Facebook. Then Lulu gives you a list of all of the guys you’re Facebook friends with, so you can review anybody you’ve been with and can see the reviews of anyone you haven’t been with. All of the reviews are totally anonymous, too, so no worries there! Guys are rated on stuff like their appearance, sense of humor, their level of commitment, and all of their best and worst qualities. You have to choose your ratings from a dropdown menu rather than just typing in your thoughts, which keeps things from getting too personal or vindictive. Options include positive things like #SmartIsSexy, #RespectsWomen, and #CallsOnTime to not-so-positive things like #Boring, #CheaperThanABigMac, and #WearsEdHardy.

If guys find out about Lulu and go check out their ratings, Chong says that any negatives they see could encourage them to better themselves in that category (for instance, they could stop wearing Ed Hardy). If they’re unhappy about their reviews, guys can even remove themselves from the database so that no one else can rate them or see their previous ratings.

Lulu doesn’t aim to make guys look like jerks when they aren’t. When they ask you about a guy, the quiz is sweet and cheeky rather than tacky and vulgar; it aims to simulate the kind of conversation you’d have with your best girlfriends after a night out with a guy. You can call him out for bad behavior or compliment him on being a total gentleman– either way, you’re doing it so that other girls know what they’re in for. Next time you get home from a party and want to find some guy’s Facebook page, download the Lulu app and find him there, too!
