Real Live College Guy Pat: We Hooked Up & Now He Hardly Answers My Texts

If you looked up “hopeless romantic” in the dictionary, Real Live College Guy Pat would be standing there smiling and waving back to you. As a college guy himself, Pat has witty opinions on all the stupid situations guys seem to end up in. From relationships, to friends with benefits, to altogether lacks thereof, Real Live College Guy Pat has all your answers and more!

This guy and I met a couple times, and we exchanged BBM. We started messaging each other almost every day and at times it got really flirty. Then we talked about hooking up and we were both down for it, but we’re not looking for a relationship. One day he came to my room and we hooked up, afterwards he just stopped messaging me. When I would text him to just say hello he would be very unresponsive, not like how he was a couple weeks ago. Do I just stop talking to him? – Huh? At Hopkins

Dear Huh,

Yes, you definitely should stop talking to this guy. However, if you accept that disclaimer, make sure you read the small print that says, “all women should note that as soon as they decide to move on from a guy, he will immediately start talking to her again, making this feat nearly impossible.” Now that you are fully aware of all the stipulations, I reiterate: stop talking to this guy.

All that this guy ever wanted was to hook up with you, which is fine in this case because it’s all that you wanted as well. You talked, flirted, had your fun, and suddenly he’s just not that into you? It’s a classic college case of been there, done that, on to the next one. Guys, in particular the ones in college who are suddenly surrounded for the first time with freedom and an endless buffet of women, have very short attention spans. He either didn’t like the experience with you or thinks he has a better shot with someone that he thinks is better than you. Don’t take it to heart; it’s simply the nature of the beast.

That being said, beware that when you finally decide enough is enough and you’re ready to stop talking to this guy (who clearly has no idea what he’s missing out on!), you’ll be all he wants. After a few short days of no communication, you’ll suddenly be the shiny, red bike he wants to find under his Christmas tree all over again, but this time even more intense than before. I don’t know how or why guys do this, but we all do. When this happens, the choice is yours, but if you let him back you need to again be aware that you’re very possibly entering into a vicious circle of frustration. The cycle won’t stop until you end it.

Ultimately, don’t stress yourself out about this guy. If it’s the casual hook-up scene you’re into, just remember: the endless buffet isn’t just for guys.
