Breakups are the worst. In between the tears and regret, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of room for amusement and self-improvement. Consider these 10 funny and serious things to do after a breakup that will help you move on while smiling the whole way through.

1. Draw moustaches on all your photos together

Instead of being sad when you see all your old pictures together, you’ll get a good laugh out of it.

2. Get a mini or even major makeover

A breakup means it’s a new chapter in your life, so celebrate by changing your look up–whether that’s with a new hairstyle or a couple of new pieces for your wardrobe.

3. Have a movies-and-ice cream sort of night.

There’s nothing wrong with shedding a few tears. Put on a movie or two you know is going to make you cry (Titanic and The Notebook are classics) and let the waterworks begin.

4. Delete your ex from your life.

Get rid of their phone number and unfollow them on social media. This will remove any temptation for you to try and contact them and will feel like a physical release of letting go.

5. Change your Facebook relationship status into a relationship with Netflix.

You spend more time with Netflix than any significant other anyways, so it was just a matter of time.

6. Redecorate and clean your space.

Get rid of anything that reminds you of your ex. Reorganize and decorate to reflect this new chapter of your life.

7. Go do something you could never get your SO to do with you.

Would they not go to the new Amy Schumer movie? Did they not enjoy shopping? Now that you’re free, go without them and treat yourself!

8. Take a mini-vacation

While it would be nice to board a plane to the nearest tropical island, sometimes having a ‘staycation’ can be just as fulfilling. Explore a new area of your town or go out of state to give yourself a change of surroundings.

9. Get rid of their old clothes pronto.

Your ex-lover probably left a couple pieces of clothing behind. Get rid of them as soon as possible, whether that’s by asking a friend to take them away or cutting them up in a fit of rage. It will get rid of temptation to sleep in that old t-shirt that smells just like them.

10. Have a good talk or two with your besties

Sometimes it helps to be reminded why you two broke up. Get your friends together and rant about all the reasons you should be thankful you’re not in that relationship anymore.

With all that aside, make sure to take care of yourself during a breakup. Whether drawing little moustaches on photos or having a movie night is going to ease the heartbreak, make sure to properly mend your aching heart. There’s nothing wrong with being sad about a breakup, just make sure you’re working towards moving on in a positive way. You are going to get through this!
