With Fusion auditions taking place, this week’s campus celebrity is the man behind it all, the creative director of Fusion, Alfred Allin. Fashion week may have been and gone, but don’t worry collegiettes the biggest fashion frenzy to take York is just around the corner.
For those who don’t know, what is Fusion all about?
Fusion is York’s biggest performance society on campus blending fashion, music and dance. A show that is entirely created, designed, choreographed, danced, and modelled by students. The show brings together a wide range of multi-talented people into a fantastic spectacle shown in Spring term each year. Best yet – all money made from the show goes to charity – raising £1000s for RAG!
Am I right that this year’s theme is the history of film, what inspired you with this choice?
Yes. This year is Fusion on Film. We are talking everything from black and white pictures to Monroe right up to the modern day blockbusters and superhero movies. The great thing with a theme like film is that it is so accessible for anyone and everyone in the audience and that’s what inspired me – to create a show that everyone could watch and enjoy to see their own favourite actor/actress or soundtrack, or costume – and say ‘Yes, I love that movie!’.
You’ve already done some auditions this year what can we expect from Fusion?
We had auditions last weekend and they are going great. Amazing to see Fresher’s getting involved as well as old students returning and new second and third years giving it a go. This year the show is in its 10th year! So we are also having big birthday celebrations with our cinema extravaganza. Expect the show to be iconic.
What top tips can you give anyone with an upcoming audition?
Anyone with an upcoming audition – Yes! Great work – come get involved in an amazing show and have some amazing fun. The auditions are very relaxed, so come and be yourself and show what you are all about. For those not with an audition, come audition! This upcoming weekend we have auditions, for models, dancers, and choreographers. Even if it’s something you have never tried before, come and try out. You will love it.
If you could date a model or dancer, who would it be and why?
Derek Zoolander for 3 reasons. No. 1: He is really really ridiculously good looking. No. 2: He cares about kids who can’t read good and wanna learn how to do other stuff good too. No. 3: Have you seen Magnum?
