12 Date Ideas That Aren’t “Netflix and Chill”

If the newest trend in dating – if you can consider it dating – isn’t your thing, try these fun, romantic, or just silly activities to get to know someone and maybe even yourself:

Laser Tag – This is a great opportunity to see how the other person handles on-your-feet situations. Besides, there is just something so satisfying about trying to beat a bunch of whiny, prepubescent teens who take the game way too seriously.

Rock Climbing – Yes, a date that involves physical activity – trust us, it’s fun. Scared of heights? This is a great way to build trust and became closer to your date. What better way to say ‘I trust you’ than hoping they don’t let you fall…or laugh about it.

Cooking Lesson – Food + a date? The math speaks for itself. Not only can you experience learning something together, but there’s food. That should be enough, but let’s also mention the chance to see your date’s food likes and dislikes.

Bookstore – Most bookstores have a place to sit or even get coffee. You and your date could learn even more about each other’s tastes and bookstores have such a wide range material, even music, that you’ll find something great there.

Picnic – How romantic is it to sit on a blanket with someone while you eat out of a basket? Even if you’re not a fan of eating outside, picnics can be done your way: use a tent. Better yet, go at night and watch the stars while you eat.

Carnival/Fair – If you want all of the excitement of the circus or an amusement park without the large scale, try a local fair or carnival. Some very romantic things happen on ferris wheels, just ask any movie from the early 2000’s.

Karaoke – Regardless of whether you can sing or not, karaoke is for you. You get a chance to look good to your date and take yourself a little less seriously or you can watch drunk ‘girls night out’ participants have the time of their lives to the tune of Oops I Did It Again.

Aquarium – Tourists and kindergarteners hyped up on sugar are not the only ones who can enjoy beautiful fish and stingrays. A great thing about the aquarium is it’s quiet very often. Talk to your date about their favorite underwater life – hopefully it’s not SpongeBob.

Gun range – We all carry around a lot of stress, and your date probably does too. Going to a gun range would be a unique way of releasing your stress together! No permit is required at most places. Just don’t picture your ex and you’ll be fine.

Drive In Movie – Watching movies inside the house isn’t nearly as cool as seeing them on a big screen in your car. Drive in movies are like jukeboxes and old cadillacs. Just take ride in a time machine and enjoy the 1950’s feel.

Go Karts – We can’t decide which is more fun: driving with your date or racing them. Why not do both? Race first, and then to avoid any sore losing, drive together.

And finally:

Tourist for a Day – When you know your town so well, it’s difficult to plan anywhere fun to go. Put yourself in a tourist’s shoes and go to the hotspots of your area. See if you’re hometown is as great (or as lame) than you thought.
