Friendship isn’t just about shopping trips, selfies and lunch dates; it’s much more. There are many unspoken rules of girl code, but there are a few that should never be broken, even by mistake.

1) Telling her if something is in her teeth or if she has a booger.

Are you going to let her go on a date or to an interview with kale in her teeth? Are you going to wait for someone else to tell her about the bat in the cave? NO! You won’t hurt her feelings; she will be grateful for your honesty.

2) Not abandoning her when she has had a few drinks.

It doesn’t matter if she is falling over or if she is crying. She might be embarrassing you, but it is your responsibility as a friend to always make sure she is safe. This doesn’t just mean helping her get home, but it also means to take the drink away from her when it’s time.

3) Ex-boyfriends are completely, totally and ALWAYS off limits.

She might tell you that it’s okay because she obviously wants you to be happy, but it is your job to understand that at one point she was head over heels for him, and feelings don’t always completely go away.

4) Don’t let her fight alone.

It could be on twitter, it could be in the locker room or it could be at a party. No matter what form or where the party is, you stand by her side and fight with her. Be ready with comebacks and fists, and defend her till the end.

5) If she needs you, you go to her.

She is going to have those days and nights when she just wants to cry and vent. It is your job to sit on the bed with her, surrounded by junk food and a box of tissues and listen. Listen until it’s time for chick flicks and wine.

Be a good girlfriend and follow these simple rules. And the thing is, these rules aren’t hard to follow; when you love your friend enough, these acts become involuntary because you want her to be happy, safe and your BFF forever.
