Whether we like to admit it or not, cuffing season is upon us. Cuffing season is a term many people have been using to describe the months between September and February. According to Urban Dictionary, “during the fall and winter months people who would normally rather be single or promiscuous find themselves along with the rest of the world desiring to be ‘cuffed’ or tied down by a serious relationship. The cold weather and prolonged indoor activity causes singles to become lonely and desperate to be cuffed.”

This might explain the sudden bursts of new relationships around campus during the fall months. Here’s a guide on the different stages of cuffing season and how they’re tackled.

Recruitment:

Doing background research on your potential bae’s. You want to know what they like to do and if they’re interested in the same things as you are. You might even find yourself creeping on their social media for a while.

Try Outs:

Going on dates or just casually hanging out. Hanging out together is a great way to know if you’re compatible. It’s always nice when conversations flow naturally and a good way to tell if you need to cut them off or not. Vibes are everything.

Practice:

Making someone a main priority and keeping the relationship a bit more steady is the next phase of cuffing season. This is when you test them out through Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Game time:

If they make it past Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and Valentine’s Day they may be a keeper. This could potentially flow into a long-term relationship that leads into the summer! If this happens, then you’ve officially been cuffed.

Final Cuts:

Sometimes people just aren’t what we hoped for. They were cool to have during the holidays, but you really can’t see yourself taking them to meet your parents. It’s time to pull the plug. It’s summertime and you don’t want anything to worry about.
