6 Ways You Can Help Improve Access to Clean Water as a College Student

Millions of children around the world do not have safe, clean water to drink and the lack of this basic necessity is not merely inconvenient- it can be lethal. Globally, waterborne illnesses are a leading cause of death for children under five.  This march, in recognition of World Water Month, join Giorgio Armani Fragrances & Her Campus, to help UNICEF impact the lives of children around the world. Here are a few ways you can help.

1. Donate

As a college student, it’s easy to feel like you don’t have much money leftover at the end of the week. Instead of buying drinks in plastic bottles this month, try switching to a reusable water bottle and taking water from home. Use the money you save to donate to UNICEF! Your body will thank you for switching to water, the environment will appreciate the reduction of plastic waste and you’ll be helping a great cause.

2. Shop

By purchasing an #AcquaForLife bracelet during World Water Month, you can help UNICEF provide a month of clean water to a child in need. If you purchase Acqua di Gio or Acqua di Gioia you can help UNICEF provide clean water to a child for four months. Giorgio Armani Fragrances has helped raise $3.4 million since 2010 through the Acqua For Life program.

3. Tweet

Practically every college student uses social media. If you want to help improve access to clean water, use your voice and raise awareness for the campaign. Throughout the month tweet using the #AcquaForLife and make sure to tag @ArmaniBeauty and @UNICEFUSA. Get informed and share that information with your followers. We can accomplish more when we work together.

4. Learn

One of the best ways you can help is by learning. Get informed. It may inspire you to brainstorm new solutions or to educate others. The more you know, the more you’ll want to help. If you’re a VCU student, we’ll be hosting a documentary screening with UNICEF at VCU for World Water Day.

5. Conserve

It’s important to save water when you can because there are areas where water must be pumped out of the ground faster than it’s replenished. You can conserve water by retrofitting your showerhead and faucets or by making sure you fix water leaks. If we work together to conserve, it could save millions of gallons every day.

6. Volunteer

You can get involved and volunteer with UNICEF or other water saving organizations in your community. UNICEF volunteers in the U.S. work together to educate, advocate and fundraise. Check your college campus for a chapter and to learn more about how you can get involved.
