5 Things That Go Through Your Mind When the Condom Breaks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Giving your body to a man can be a difficult thing for some women to do. You’re scared, nervous and just want everything to go right.

So you start kissing, touching and getting into the moment. Everything is going great, it feels good and then “POP.” A sound that you pretend you can’t hear, but can almost definitely feel — the condom breaks. Instantly, you go into panic mood. Here are five things that rush through your head immediately after the sound of a condom breaking:

1. I hope I don’t get pregnant

Hopefully you’re on birth control, but if not this can be very scary moment for you. Nobody wants to stop their current life for an unplanned pregnancy. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with having a baby unplanned but if you’re not ready, you don’t want to rush responsibility on yourself.

2. Should I go buy Plan B

The answer is YES. Plan B is $50, which is pretty expensive especially for a college student, but I rather spend $50 and have a peace at mind than worrying over the next couple of weeks if my period is going to be late or not.

3. What if he has an STD

Nobody wants to bring this up in the bedroom, but this is an important thing to ask your partner. When was the last time you got tested? Do you always use condoms? Questions like this can be touchy and uncomfortable but it’s reality. Put your new partner through an application process, so you can know if he has anything or not. You have you make sure you stay healthy and safe. Regardless you should always get tested after.

4. Eww, did semen just get in me

This might not be that serious for some women, but I get grossed out when semen gets in me and I wasn’t expecting it. The feeling is uncomfortable and slimy, plus it doesn’t all come out at once. So you have to go throughout your day walking around as semen drips out of you. Disgusting.

5. Oh great, now there is a piece of condom stuck in me

When a condom breaks, pieces can get left inside you. So you might not even know until the next day that it was even there until you go to bathroom and found it laying in your underwear.

Regardless if you’re having sex with your boyfriend, a friend that you have known for a while or even a random date on Tinder, you have to make sure you stay safe and healthy as a woman. Knowing the person, you are having sex with or at least having a connection with them can give you a little peace at mind when things go wrong in the bedroom. Let’s be honest sex is great, but things can happen. Just be calm, stay rational and everything is going to be okay.
