When you rely on on-campus food and you don’t really have a kitchen to make your healthy dishes, it can be hard to stay fit. So here is what I eat on campus that I think will help you keep a healthy lifestyle.
Breakfast: microwaveable oatmeal. If you have a microwave in your dorm room you can just add some water to your oats in a small bowl and pop it in the microwave. It’s easy and fast. If you happen to have a mini fridge you can have some fruit like blueberries, bananas, pomegranate or whatever you like to top off your oatmeal.
Snack: the bookstore sells healthy granola bars and healthy chips. Disclaimer: they are not the best tasting snacks and they can be overpriced. So an alternative is getting a pack at Walmart and have them in your dorm if you have time to shop.
Lunch: A salad from Fresh Creations or Starbucks (both in meal plan) or go to the cafeteria and get some grilled chicken, a sweet potato, and some salad, or maybe you prefer some pasta with a salad. You could also get a veggie sandwich or turkey spinach wrap. Tip: check what the menu of the day is before going into the cafeteria.
Dinner: I will usually have some leftovers from lunch, but if I don’t, I like to have some green tea, which again you can easily do in your dorm or get it from Starbucks, and some crackers.
There comes a time when campus food gets boring so a few places where you can go eat are:
- Fresh Kitchen
- Daily Eats
- Rico’s Açaí
- Jerk Hut
When eating out I try to choose the healthiest option, but don’t forget to treat yourself once in a while. Never be too hard on yourself, have fun and eat what you truly like.
