Top 3 Things to Know about Waiters

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tampa chapter.

Let’s all admit it: We’ve all blamed our servers for things we know isn’t their fault, but our frustration got the best of us. Working in a restaurant, I’ve had to deal with all different kinds of people. However, here’s are the three things that I think everyone should keep in mind while dining in.

  1. WE DO NOT MAKE THE PRICES
    1. We have nothing to do with the menu! Management makes the prices! I’m sorry that the piece of chicken is more than you think it should cost, but honestly, you chose to eat here and I’m sorry but we have to do our job.
  1. DON’T FORGET TO TIP
    1. I promise every single penny matters. Personally, I’m paying my own tuition and I bust my ass all day every day to make those tips, to pay it. It definitely sucks when you work your hardest for your table and they leave no tip. Don’t be rude, and please be mindful that most of our money comes from tips. We all have a life to live and dreams to pursue!!
  1. WE DO NOT MAKE THE FOOD
    1. Therefore, we don’t have anything to do with how long the food takes to cook. I once had an instance where I put in an order, but the chef forgot to make it. So, when I went into the back to find the table’s food, I couldn’t find it anywhere. I had to go through this whole process of asking the chef, re-telling him the order, trying to find the receipt, and my table was pissed and so disrespectful to me. Honestly people, it if was up to us- your food would be out in 30 seconds. So please, be patient with us if there is something that doesn’t go perfectly. We are trying to provide the best for you – I promise!
