Five Healthy Dorm Room Snack Recipes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tampa chapter.

Most students think that the food on campus is decent, however, no one ever said it was good for you. If you’re a freshman, you’ve probably already gained the freshman 15, thanks to Dairy Queen and Chick-Fil-A (trust me, we’ve all been there before). If you’re a student who lives in a dorm with no kitchen, it can be quite difficult to try to eat healthy on campus; but not impossible. For all of you who are trying to get back into shape (or for those health freaks like me), here are five healthy recipes that are super yummy and easy to make. And you don’t need a kitchen!

1. Peanut butter and banana smoothie

Ingredients:

-a blender

-1 banana

-1 cup of milk

-1 to 2 tbsp. of peanut butter

-1 tbsp. of honey

Mix all the ingredients together in a blender with a couple of ice cubes, then pour it into a cup to drink.

2. Raw spicy mango salsa

Ingredients:

-1 large ripe mango (cubed)

-1 sweet pepper (diced)

-1/2 medium red onion (diced)

-1/4 cup of chopped fresh cilantro

-1/4 jalepeno (minced)

-1 tbsp. of olive oil

-1 lime (juiced)

-pinch of salt and pepper to taste

Mix all of the ingredients together in a large bowl and enjoy right away or refrigerate for later.

3.  Avocado and siracha rice cakes

Ingredients:

-1 avocado

-rice cakes (unsalted)

-siracha sauce (or preferred hot sauce)

Cut the avocado in half and cut the inside into slices, put them on top of the rice cake and drizzle siracha sauce over it.

4. Nutella energy bites

Ingredients:

-nutella

-oats

-chia seeds

-honey

-coconut(optional)

Combine the nutella, oats, chia seeds and honey together and roll them into little balls. If desired, sprinkle some coconut on top of each one.

5. Chickpea, avocado, and feta salad

Ingredients:

-1 can of chickpeas

-2 avocados

-1/3 cup of feta cheese

-1 lime (for juice)

-salt and pepper

In a medium bowl, combine the chickpeas, avocados (cut up), and feta cheese. Next, squeeze the lime juice into the bowl and sprinkle a little bit of salt and pepper over it. Mix it all together, and you’re done. You can also put this over toast, if desired.

You can eat any of these as a snack or substitute it as a meal/dessert. Enjoy!

I'm a senior Journalism major and Communications minor at the University of Tampa. Born and raised in New Jersey, I naturally gravitated to the sunshine state. Career goal: magazine writer/editor. I'm the campus cutie/celeb editor for Her Campus at my school. Besides that, I'm obsessed with anything Disney and enjoy working out at the gym, going to yoga, shopping, watching movies and going out with friends, as well as long walks on the beach. Some of my guilty pleasures include anything peanut butter, pina coladas, the Lion King movie, Jacuzzis, and tattoos. Fun fact: I still can't swim.
