Campus Celebrity: Lesley Rowland

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tampa chapter.

If you haven’t yet heard of this week’s Campus Celebrity, than you must be either a.) a freshman or b). living under a rock.

This week’s Campus Celebrity is known for her big hair, winning smile, and spunky attitude. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Lesley Rowland is a junior communications major. Although she is a country girl at heart, she enjoys living in Tampa and partaking in the incredible nightlife that it offers. The 21-year-old has a lot of school spirit and is involved in many organizations on campus. In spite of the fact that she was born with Cystic Fibrosis, nothing stands in her way of reaching her goals. It just makes her all the more inspiring.

Lesley is the student coordinator for Breathe Easy UT and Disjointed, digital director for She’s The First, and a sister of Kappa Alpha Theta. She is also in the process of bringing Make-A-Wish to UT next year. The organization will consist of fundraising events, which she will be in charge of. Apart from all of that, Lesley was a Freshman 15 panelist for Seventeen.com. She says that her dream job is to be a talk show host (watch out Chelsea Handler)!

Although Lesley works hard, she also knows how to have fun. A quote that she likes to live by is, “Party like a nobody, work to be a somebody.” One of the craziest things that she’s ever done is ask a boy to the sadie hawkins dance by performing a dance routine to a Britney Spears song. “I was sick and out of school for a month and showed up to class one day in the school girl outfit and everything. I don’t think anyone was expecting that,” she says.

As far as hobbies go, Lesley enjoys crafting, four-wheeling, making music videos on YouTube, and traveling to different places alongside her mom who is a flight attendant. Some other interests she has include beauty, fashion, and exploring different social media platforms. One of her most popular series of pictures on Instagram are her selfies with food. Speaking of food, Lesley’s go to place to eat in Tampa is The Outpost, although she wouldn’t mind it if a guy took her to The Columbia Restaurant (take note, boys!).

When it comes to guys, Lesley isn’t too set on a specific type of look. However, she pays close attention to a man’s character from the way he says hi to the cafeteria workers or how he treats his friends. When asked where she sees herself in five years, she replies, “Happy and without kids still. Oh, and still getting carded at bars.”

I'm a senior Journalism major and Communications minor at the University of Tampa. Born and raised in New Jersey, I naturally gravitated to the sunshine state. Career goal: magazine writer/editor. I'm the campus cutie/celeb editor for Her Campus at my school. Besides that, I'm obsessed with anything Disney and enjoy working out at the gym, going to yoga, shopping, watching movies and going out with friends, as well as long walks on the beach. Some of my guilty pleasures include anything peanut butter, pina coladas, the Lion King movie, Jacuzzis, and tattoos. Fun fact: I still can't swim.
