Editor’s Picks- Denton Hot Spots

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

One thing I love about living in Denton is all the unique places to go. Just the square alone has everything you need to make a fun day. Here are a few of the places in Denton that you need to visit while you are here.

The Square- Okay, so this is kind of a loophole because I am including all of these at once, but the square is a place like no other square I’ve ever been to. Back home, my square is filled with law offices and feed supply stores. In Denton, we have Beth Marie’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream, Mad World Records, More Fun Comics and Games, Recycled Books, and that’s just one strip alone. There is no limit to what you can do, or how much time you can spend exploring.

New York Sub Hub- If you haven’t heard of this, you either have never been to Denton or are living under a rock. This beloved staple has been in the news lately for fighting back against UNT who is trying to force them out of their location using eminent domain laws. However, the Denton community stands with Sub Hub and its delicious sandwiches, so I have a feeling it won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

The Chairy Orchard- And no, that isn’t a typo. If you are looking for a place to take cute pictures, I suggest finding this hidden gem on the other side of town. It’s a yard filled with, you guessed it, chairs, of all different shapes and sizes. From lawn chairs to hammocks to recliners, they truly have it all.

Rose Costumes- Even if you aren’t a theater lover, this place is magical. Filled with every costume you could ever imagine, (and some really cool probs, including a telephone booth and a throne from Game of Thrones) you could get lost in here for hours. Rentals start at $65, but if the employees are feeling particularly nice, they might just let you try some on while you are there!

Goatman’s Bridge- Okay, I know that all the locals are groaning at this, but hear me out— it can be fun. If you are into spooky stuff, then go at night and read about the legend about how the bridge is haunted. If you don’t like spooky stuff, or don’t think the bridge is haunted, then go anyways and go on a hike!
