Campus Celeb: Ailie MacLennan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

Name: Ailie MacLennan

Age: 21

Major: International Studies & Political Science

Year: Senior

Hometown: Cary, NC

Her Campus: What are you involved in on campus?

Ailie MacLennan: I am currently involved with Student Ambassadors, Study Abroad Ambassadors through the Office of International Programs, and the Office of Admissions.

HC: What is your favorite thing about being a Student Ambassador?

AM: My favorite thing about Student Ambassadors is the sense of community that we have as an organization. It is such a privilege to be able to serve the university and interact with prospective students and I get to do it with an amazing group of people. I have made some of my closest friends by being an ambassador and many of the people in the organization have made a lasting impact on my life.

HC: What has been your favorite memory at UNCW?

AM: My favorite memory at UNCW is the day I was inducted into Student Ambassadors. It was great to feel officially a part of the organization after that first semester of shadowing tours and learning about the organization (getting the gold name tag that day was just an extra benefit!). It was just such a happy day and I was able to celebrate with not only my fellow ambassadors but my parents were also able to come and see the inductions so that made the day even more special.

HC: What are you most proud of?

AM: I am most proud of myself for taking a big risk this past semester and studying abroad in Australia. I didn’t know anyone else who was applying to the same school as me so there was a chance I was going to be traveling to the other side of the world not knowing a single person! I was able to grow so much in my independence and I was able to have so many opportunities and experiences that would not have been possible if I hadn’t taken that risk.

HC: What do you plan on pursuing after graduation?

AM: I am very interested in jobs in international programs in universities because studying abroad had such a big impact on my life and I would love to be able to help students pursue their goals of studying abroad. I am excited to see what the future holds!

Okay, Ailie…think carefully.

HC: What is your spirit animal?

AM: My spirit animal is a golden retriever (or at least I hope it is!)

(It definitely is.)

If you happen to catch Ailie around campus, give her a big smile and maybe even say hello. Ailie, thank you for being such a bright light on campus and sharing our home with future Seahawks! Best of luck in your final semester here at UNCW.
