Statement apparel holds a special place in my heart (and closet). I own a handful of t-shirts and sweaters that promote equality, women’s rights and overall human decency, which was why I was stoked to learn that my sister-in-law had started her own statement t-shirt line with her mom on Etsy. Not only are their designs cute, but they create a community of relatability and comfort for everybody. If you’re anything like me and appreciate a good statement t-shirt, then you definitely need to check out their shop.

Melissa Cruzen-Sakuma and Kris Cruzen are a mother/daughter entrepreneur duo whose Etsy shop @TheGlitterGrove launched in October this year and was inspired by their walk in the 2017 Women’s March.

“Seeing other strong women stand up for what they believed in made us think about what we could do and how we could make our voices heard,” Cruzen said.

Their target audience is progressive women and men of all ages, and each of their designs features a unique saying on the front, ranging from quirky motherly statements to political and meat-free diet statements. The shop currently showcases 34 one-of-a-kind designs with a price range of $20-$30. Additionally, each of the shirts are unisex style and are available in seven different colors. Their t-shirts are the perfect Christmas gift for your favorite teacher, mom, feminist, vegetarian, political activist or shopping enthusiast.

“[The message we want to send our customers is to] make your voice heard,” Cruzen-Sakuma said. “Our shop is not just political apparel. We wanted to also make cute and fun t-shirts for teachers and parents who need reminders that they’re not alone and that they can do it.”

As much as I already wear my beliefs on my clothing, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to promote a local and familial business like this one. The owners make each shirt by order in their home, which is impressive and refreshing amidst the norm of manufactured clothing. Supporting women entrepreneurs is something we can all do to promote women’s equality, and this shop allows us to do that and look stylish simultaneously. With this in mind, take the time to check out their shop on Etsy.com/shop/TheGlitterGrove. You can also find them on Facebook and Instagram for updates on their new designs.
