Yes, Thanksgiving means stuffing your face with delicious food for days straight. But if you’re in a serious relationship, you could be spending the holiday with your boyfriend and his parents. This can be nerve-wracking as it is, but on top of it, you’ll worry about what to wear. When you’re meeting two of the most important people in you’re boyfriend’s life, you want to feel comfortable and confident. Here are a couple tips to make sure you’re ready to meet the parents (and look good doing it):
Talk with your boyfriend to find out what his parents are like. See if they’re conservative or laidback. More importantly, ask if his parents are allergic to anything. Imagine how terrible it would be if your boyfriend’s mother was allergic to your perfume. You would never go into a test without studying a bit beforehand, so make sure you do your homework when it comes to learning about his Mom and Dad.
If you’re meeting the parents for the first time in a casual setting, jeans are totally okay. Just dress them up a bit, so you don’t look too casual. A frat tank and yoga pants are not good outfit choices. You’re meeting his parents not going to the gym.
For a family Thanksgiving dinner, try wearing a cute dress. Don’t wear anything that’s too short or anything tight enough to rip the second you sit down. If you’re not sure whether or not you should wear heels or stick with flats, dressing up is always safer. If you’re really unsure, go with a wedge to add some height. Also, if your dress has an open back, don’t be afraid to add a cardigan to the outfit to make it more conservative.
If you’re heading out to a holiday party to meet the parents, make sure you wear heels you can walk in. You wouldn’t want to embarrass yourself by falling in front of his parents because you don’t know how to walk in heels. Also, don’t be afraid to accessorize to add a little bit of your personality.
An important thing to remember is that your boyfriend likes you, so chances are his parents will, too. Just be yourself, and dress for success. When in doubt, think WWKMD (What Would Kate Middleton Do?) because let’s be real, she’s the definition of a classy lady.
