The Good and The Bad of When Your Parents Come to Visit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

With no more football gamedays on the weekends to look forward to, springtime on UF’s campus can be kind of boring. Going home is often a pain in the butt because of the distance. However, it also makes the perfect opportunity for your parents to come visit. It’s definitely great to see them without the hassle of having to drive home, but things may not always be as good as they seem…

GOOD: Your parents come into town and they take you and your roommates out to dinner. #score #freefood

BAD: They insist on taking your new boyfriend out to dinner as well, thus embarrassing stories will ensue.

GOOD: You finally get to introduce mommy and daddy to The Swamp, Midtown and all UF campus has to offer.

BAD: You finally have to introduce UF’s campus to your dad’s jorts and corny jokes and your mother’s mom jeans and obnoxious laugh.

GOOD: You get to bring you parents to your favorite little hole-in-the-wall pizza place because pizza is bae.

BAD: Your parents will probably refer to it as a “dirty, overpriced, hippie haven.” *sigh*

GOOD: Your mom will bring you to Gainesville’s finest shopping establishment, the Oaks Mall, and let you splurge a little on clothes.

BAD: She will comment on how you have gone up a few sizes since high school.

Although your dad’s jorts and your mom’s embarassing stories about you seem unforgivable, it’s important to be thankful for the fact that your family took the time to visit you at school. All jokes aside, they’ll always be there for you, even if you don’t agree that Satchel’s has the best pizza in Gainesville despite the fact that it’s a “hippie haven.”
