The Most Memorable Moments From New York Fashion Week S/S 2019

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Pop some champagne and perfect your street-style because fashion’s favorite month is upon us! September just knows how to do fashion—the September issues of magazines are often deemed the “Super Bowl” of the fashion editing world—and now, Fashion Week is at our very own doorstep with New York Fashion Week.

With 109 different runway shows, presentations, and appointments spanning from Thursday, September 6th to Wednesday, September 12th, it can be difficult for brands to make their mark and stand out during fashion’s most talked about week. Here are the brands who mastered the art of memorability, from the theming of their shows to specific standout accessories:

Tom Ford’s Opening Night Show

Tom Ford sure knows how to make an entrance! His S/S 2019 show kicked off New York Fashion Week on Thursday night and featured 48 glamorous looks in shades of blush, nude, and black, with the occasional hint of fake crocodile. Ford then ended the show with three leopard-print womenswear looks, which offer a sophisticated juxtaposition to his Fall 2018 line.

Kate Spade New York’s Matching Accessories

Filled with bold and preppy pieces, Kate Spade New York’s show on Friday night reminded us all that wearing florals in the Spring can still be fashion-forward. The collection features colorful, geometric patterns paired with boots, large sunglasses, and matching headscarves and handkerchiefs. The show was absolutely captivating, much like the late Kate Spade, who was honored at the event through note cards that read “she left a little sparkle everywhere she went.”

The Flashiness That Was Disney Villains x The Blonds

There is only one adequate word to describe the aura of the Disney Villains x The Blonds collection: fabulous. The show featured a star-studded model lineup with celebrities such as Patrick Starrr and Paris Hilton rocking the sequin and feather-filled interpretations of iconic Disney Villains. The true star of the show? The model who death-dropped down the runway.

Prabal Gurung’s Diversity

Prabal Gurung knows that one size—and ethnicity—does not fit all. Mixing fashion with activism, Gurung made sure that his show was a self-described “cross-cultural journey,” featuring models from over 35 different countries as well as a plus-size model. The collection features vibrant colors, beaded necklaces, and artisanal gowns all showcased under rainbow prayer flags and in honor of indigenous communities back in his home country of Nepal.
