John Krasinski Has “Some Good News” We All Need To Hear

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Irvine chapter.

The world is filled with so much negativity and bad news at the moment. Everywhere I look I’m constantly being reminded about the state of the world. On Twitter, I see tweets about how many coronavirus cases the world has now or who the most recent celebrity is to have tested positive. On Facebook, I am bombarded with posts about how to stay safe and healthy. Every time I go into my living room, my parents have some news station on to hear about the latest developments. Although it is very important to stay up to date on the status of the pandemic, it can be disheartening to be consumed by so much negativity 24/7. It is hard to stay positive during times like these.

On March 25th, actor and filmmaker John Krasinski, who rose to fame as Jim Halpert on The Office, tweeted asking for people to send him stories or things people saw that week that made them smile. After reading some of the replies, he was inspired to create a YouTube channel dedicated entirely to good news. He titled the show “Some Good News.”

“Some Good News” sees Krasinski sitting at a desk in a suit and tie with a “SGN” sign (made by his two daughters) hanging up behind him. He shares stories of generosity and good deeds, people (figuratively) coming together and heartwarming videos that will be sure to put a smile on your face.

Like a traditional news show, his show also features interviews. In the first episode, Krasinski chats with Steve Carell to mark the 15th anniversary of The Office. He also interviews 15 year old Coco, who just finished her final chemo treatment and was surprised with a social distancing-style welcome home parade. In the second episode, he talks with 9 year old Aubrey, who had birthday plans to see Hamilton that were canceled due to the pandemic. Krasinski surprised her with a Zoom performance from the original cast of the Broadway show.

John Krasinski’s “Some Good News” will be the light amongst all the darkness. It will be your source of positivity. This show will make you laugh, smile, and it may make you cry (happy tears, of course). So if you have about 15 minutes, you should watch some good news.
