V-Day Crunch Time: Last Minute Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.

Valentine’s Dayis just around the corner, so, ladies, it’s time to decide how you want to celebrate! We’ll
all start with boring old classes and cold walks on campus then head to work or the gym, but how should you end the night?

If you’re single…
Enjoy it! Embrace it! You don’t have to struggle to find your partner the perfect present…your independence is a gift to yourself! You can skip the prep work, sit back, relax, and enjoy the holiday completely.

What’s the best way to for a single collegiette to do that? With a little wine, of course! Conveniently enough, red, rose, and white wines are the perfect colors for V-Day. Pick your favorite, and pop the cork as soon as you get home.

Hey, why not invite your other single friends over and treat yourselves to some chocolate too? Watch some rom coms? Put on Beyonce’s famous song and dance around? Dress in your sexiest red outfits and go out? Do whatever you want! This is your day to love yourself.

If you’re taken…

Congratulations. You’ve waited forever for that perfect valentine, and it seems you’ve finally found someone worthy. Now what the heck are you supposed to do?

There are tons of sites that you can browse online (like perpetualkid.com and vat19.com) to find a great gift, but can it be shipped home fast enough? Probably not. And, let’s be honest, our stores and shopping selections in this part of Maine don’t offer much for us either.

Consider these options instead:

-Splurge and book a hotel for the night. You can order room service, go for a midnight swim, get cozy in the hot tub, and fall asleep somewhere unfamiliar. Being in a different place will change your nightly routine, and make you more focused on each other. Not to mention, there’s no post-party cleaning or roomies to worry about.

-Go Ice Skating. This seems to be popular advice this year, but it’s for a good reason. There’s something sweet about holding hands and gliding around under the stars or surrounded by Bangor’s downtown lights. You’ll probably do a little bonding if you’re both shivering and falling all over the place too. If you don’t have skates, try sledding or building an igloo. When you get home, make sure your man kisses any boo-boos, and warm each other up with a massage.

-Make a meal together. Chances are that the best restaurants are booked, and they can be noisy, crowded, and less romantic anyway. Pick your favorite foods, and help each other make a special dinner. Use your nicest tableware, light some candles, and enjoy. If your floor is comfortable, you could even make the meal a picnic. Once your taste buds are satisfied, you can start to think of plenty of other ways to please each other in the kitchen…
