Every year as March rolls around, it’s nearly impossible to avoid the excitement for UDance. As a UD student, UDance has become a major aspect of my college years, and rather than just a one day event, it has become a year long challenge to raise as much money as possible to support the incredible B+ Foundation. For the past two years, I have made the commitment to stand for the entire 12 hour event, raising a minimum of $460 in an effort to help families who are battling pediatric cancer, and ultimately, create a world where pediatric cancer no longer exists.
My involvement with UDance began September of my freshman year, when I attended an information session. At this presentation, they had the incredible Joe McDonough speak, who told us why the B+ Foundation was formed. I was captivated by his story, and knew that I had to be a part of this. That night I signed up to be a dancer for my first UDance, and haven’t stopped fundraising since. After a year of being involved with UDance, I joined Alpha Epsilon Phi which was a founding organization of UDance at the University of Delaware. This year I not only surpassed my personal goal by raising $700, but my chapter of AEPhi surpassed its collective goal of raising over $100,000 this year. This year we are making history as the first organization in the B+ foundation’s history to raise over $100,000.
UDance is me more than just 12 hours of fun, more than just a one day event to hang out with my friends. UDance is a day to honor all of the B+ Heroes, who are fighting for their lives every day. UDance is a day to remember all of the kids who lost their fight. UDance is a day to begin making a better future. I dance to be a part of the change that we need to see happen. I am dancing for the kids (FTK).
I am dancing today, to give kids a tomorrow.
