4 Outfit Tips for Spring Music Festivals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

With the arrival of spring in New Orleans comes not only beautiful weather, but also an abundance of exciting music festivals. Music festivals are a great time to break away from mundane, everyday outfits and show-off what your closet has to offer. With Buku, Crawfest and Jazz Fest all around the corner, they are plenty of opportunities to strut your stuff in this season’s hottest festival looks. Unsure of just what to wear to your next festival? Here are 4 simple outfit tips that’ll make sure you’re looking and feeling your best while rocking out.

1. Graphic Tanks Are Your Friend

Music festivals attract massive crowds, and let’s be real- no one wants to blend right in. Graphic tees and tanks that make a statement are a way to ensure your personal style shines bright! I’m all about comfort as well, and nothing is better than a cute shirt that feels great.  This NastyGal Tank ($38) is fun, sassy and functional.

2. Layers Are Stylish and Smart

Many festivals start early in the day when the sun is shining, making it seem totally practical to throw on a light shirt and shorts and call it a day. I always seem to forget that yes, the sun does go down, and end up FREEZING by the time my favorite band begins to play at 8 pm. To make sure you’ll be warm and enjoying the music, top a tank with a cool kimono such as this one from Tobi ($44).

3.  Take a Risk with Patterned Pants

One of this season’s biggest trends is patterns. While patterns are nothing new, wearing them on a pair of flowy shorts from Brandy Melville or pair of harem pants (such as these Forever 21 High-Waisted ones) gives them a fresh new look. Patterned pants also tend to be a lot softer than the standard jean short, which will make sure you are comfortable enough to last all day. Pair them with a simple crop top and gladiator sandals, and you have a unique festival look.

4. Accessories Are Key

Music festivals may as well be the Halloween of the music world- anything and everything goes outfit-wise. A fun way to get into the free-spirited mood is with funky accessories. Flower headbands are all the rage right now, and I am loving it. Find one with lots of color such as the NastyGal version (shown below) to brighten your look. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not try throwing on some crazy socks, or a to-the-floor necklace?

These ideas will put you at ease when getting ready for your next music festival, no matter which one you are attending! Remember, music festivals are all about good vibes, so looking and feeling great will make your experiance even better.
