Profile: Emma Singleton

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tufts chapter.

Name: Emma Singleton

Hometown: Salt Lake City, Utah (“the greatest snow on earth”)

Major: Biopsychology, possibly religion too

Year: 2020

What are you involved in on campus? I am involved in TEDxTufts as a speaker coach! When we select our line-up for the Tufts TED conference at the beginning of the year, I get to work with our speakers to help craft their idea and talk into something worth sharing. I also teach comprehensive sexual education to Boston high schoolers through Peer Health Exchange. I am starting to work in a biopsychology lab at Tufts that investigates aggression, drug-induced behavior, and alcohol in mice.

Single, taken, complicated? Single

Biggest Pet Peeve: My biggest pet peeve would have to be when the soap in a bathroom or kitchen is running low and people add water to it to try to make more soap. There’s no logic behind it and it ruins the soap for everyone. There, I said it.

Most embarrassing moment at Tufts: among many embarrassing moments, one particularly horrible one took place my freshman fall in biology 13 lab. My TA was very strict and uncompromising, and she asked me to draw a diagram on the the chalkboard. I am truly very afraid of writing with chalk and told her I couldn’t do it because I have a chalk phobia. Needless to say, she was not amused and forced the chalk it into my hand as she pulled me up to the board. I was so terrified and embarrassed that I cried in front of my entire lab section and had to leave lab because I was so hysterical. In conclusion- never make me touch chalk.

What is one thing on your Tufts bucket list? Meet with Presidents Anthony Monaco one-on-one to discuss each other memes made about him in the Tufts memes group.

Spirit celeb: Jennifer Lawrence- she loves to eat, she constantly embarrasses herself, and she had a huge crush on Justin Timberlake as a teen.

In a movie of your life, who would play you and why? I have to bet that few producers would be interested in making a movie of my life. However, if Blake Lively would be willing to do the honors, I wouldn’t say no.

What beverage most embodies you and why? I would like to think champagne, because it’s bubbly, crowd pleasing, fun, and versatile.

Fun fact that most people at Tufts don’t know: I am a Jew from Utah! We make up about 0.6% of the population #themoreyouknow.
