You Wore WHAT on Halloween?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

So, the candy is finally marked down and we have officially said goodbye to Halloween 2017, but the talk about the best costumes is still a popular conversation.

It’s time to take note of what our favorite costumes were this year so that we can plan a good line-up for next year. Here are some of my favorite costumes that seemed the most popular and most successful.

1. Lifeguard

So, Google is basically the end-all for me. When I’m trying to find an idea, I will usually type in “lifeguard” or “devil” and find ideas of things people have previously done. If you find something you like, go to Amazon and type it in. For example: if you want to be a lifeguard, type in “Baywatch” and you’ll find a bright red swimsuit that says “Baywatch” on it. Guess what? It’s $14.99, and with Amazon Prime, there’s free shipping included too. Then, all you need to do is find yourself a whistle, and maybe a red floaty of some sort if you want a prop to carry around. You can find a red whistle on Amazon for $2.09. If you aren’t comfortable walking around in just a one-piece, throw on some white Soffe shorts or jean shorts and you’ll look like a lifeguard off-duty.

2. Devil

This is one of the costumes I saw a lot around Temple. One of my roommates was a devil, and it was really easy for her to find a few things that made a good devil costume. She started off with going on Boohoo’s site and looked for a red dress. She ended up going with the “Poppy Deep Plunge Bodycon Mini Dress” and then got Red Devil Ears from American Eagle. She threw on some dramatic makeup, put on some red lipstick, and she was set.

3. Purge

I freaking LOVE this costume. I’m a sucker for futuristic horror movies. I thought the movie was so well done and actually scared me. Not to mention that the masks are the creepiest things ever. I think I would jump if I turned around and saw one of my friends dancing near me with a purge mask on. This is a great costume if you don’t want to spend that much money, AND you can make it a little riskay while you’re at it. I have seen a lot of girls cut the front of their shirts around the bra area and throw red paint on themselves and the white shirt, but if you really are in a time crunch and only have time to order one or two things, just type in “purge mask” and you’ll find a result or two on Amazon and other sites. The mask is really all you need. Just cut up a shirt and put it on, and if you want to go all out with it, just order a plastic saw…then you will for sure look the part.

4. Skeleton

I think one of my favorite parts of this costume is that you can purchase a skeleton bodysuit and be set. Some of the body suits actually look 3D, and they even sometimes glow in the dark, which would be cool at night when you’re out with your friends. Andddd…bodysuits are oh-so flattering without exposing everything…we all like to leave a little to the imagination.

5. Plastic Surgery- Before and After

Okay girls… my favorite costume ever. I saw one girl did this here at Temple and it turned out great. I thought it was so clever. Halloweekend is at least 3 days long most of the time, depending on how many days you go out. Finding 3 costumes can be tricky, especially if you waited until the last minute. I adore this costume because you can easily use the ‘before’ plastic surgery by using eyeliner to make arrows to show that you want to boost your chest area, your nose thinner, and cheekbones risen. The next night, you can do bruised makeup with some purple and black eyeshadow, and take some fake blood and add it here and there. Look at how creative this is.

If you love one of these costumes, remember that it’s never too early to start planning your costume for next year…
