Ditch the library, there’s better options.

When I first got to campus I thought the only places to study were my dorm or the library. The Charles Library on Temple University is beautiful and new, but the silence can make it intimidating to even breathe too hard out of fear of disturbing the people around you. My study sessions became uncomfortable, and I ended up not getting anything done. There were never any seats, and I always found myself walking aimlessly through all the levels just to find a place to do work.

Once I started studying in places that aimed to stimulate my mind more than they were quiet, I noticed a change in the quality of my work. So, I’ve made a list of all my favorite places to study on Temple University’s campus that are ten times better than the library.

The TECH Center

I get work done at the TECH Center because it has the right amount of movement and background noise to give me peace of mind when studying without being overwhelming and not as quiet as the library. This building offers private rooms, alternative seating, and different types of computers to help get work done on the busiest of days. The best part about studying at the TECH Center is that there’s ALWAYS open seating.

Tyler School of Art and Architecture

You don’t have to be a Tyler student to go and enjoy the indoor spaces available in this building. Tyler offers many different seating areas in their multilevel facility. The building provides creative inspiration from their displayed art pieces and patterned walls that help stimulate my mind and grow my imagination.

Anderson Hall

Anderson Hall just finished their new outdoor renovations, and the area offers shade as well as a beautiful view looking over to the Bell Tower. The new and innovative architecture provides a modern inspirational feel that encourages productivity.

The Bell Tower

Working on the grass by the Bell Tower is my favorite place on campus, not only because of the friendly squirrels, but also because of the perfect amount of nature the trees and grass provide. Going to college in the city deprives me of the feelings of nature, so having a place on campus that I can go to helps give me the perfect amount of natural scenery.

Being able to find the perfect place to study on campus is half the battle. Finding new locations can help students discover new outlooks on their course material, and has even helped improve my grades in the past. Before giving up on your ability to study, try out one of these locations and see how they work.
